Below is the first of three parts of the presentation I gave to the North Bay Aquatics swim team last month. I was asked to share the story of my recovery thus far to the Masters team, a group which has been very supportive of me since the beginning.
Chronicling my own progression, as I have here with stories, photos, and videos, was a really valuable exercise. Most of the early footage I hadn’t seen for a couple years, if at all, and so it was shocking, even to me, how far I’ve come.
Reliving the experience, particularly as I outlined the circumstances of the injury itself, was not easy – but being aware of the ways in which it did, or did not, trouble me, provided meta-lessons of their own.
This is a candid presentation; I’m putting myself out there and my vulnerabilities are on display. Obviously, given the title of the talk, I value that kind of authenticity.
I hope you all find it illuminating and I look forward to hearing your reactions.
